MOISTURIZE MOISTURIZE AND MOISTURIZE SOME MORE! if you have access to a local Sallys beauty supply, they have lil packets of moisturizers that work pretty well. use a heat protectant spray.

It heats up in about 30 seconds and doesn't clip hair (at least the one I have doesn't). It only costs about 39 dollars on amazon.com. The 1 inch is about 10 bucks cheaper. I have the 2 inch one which cost 50 dollars but it works wonders especially because my hair is really frizzy.
